"This is a series of memory "drawings" about a collection of old  glass ware retrieved from a shipwreck that I saw in Turkey years ago. I loved the delicacy of the old glass pieces, the amazing colours and surfaces, and the presentation in wonderful groupings."

Helen Sanderson  - March 2001

As I got into working with the still life concept in collage, I became captivated by the translucent effects that the transparent papers could give… the torn edges superimposed over one another had a lovely quality. I was reminded of some gorgeous glassware that I had seen at a museum at Bodrum on the Turkish Aegean coast, which had been found on an old shipwreck, and brought to the surface after hundreds of years submerged. The surface was so marvellous. The aged patina, the years of being under water etched onto the surface, the colours, and above all the delicate pink glassware, stayed fixed in my mind."
