Layering the Landscape workshop was presented by Helen Sanderson and was an initiative of the Warwick Art Gallery. It was a drawing, painting, collage and mixed media workshop held in April 2002 at Palgrove Station, near Warwick, in South East Queensland. The workshop was sponsored by the Shire of Warwick, RADF and Edwards Dunlop Paper. Participants were able to absorb the atmosphere, investigate the terrain, observe the particular, and document a wider view of one of Queensland's loveliest rural landscapes.
Group gathering of Workshop participants, staff, and Palgrove owners.

Installation by Rob Simcocks Layering the Landscape ....Six days at Palgrove.....no cooking, no phones, all the time in the world for you to just do your own thing. Participants enjoyed the peace and quiet and the encouraging atmosphere needed to create some wonderful work. Artists explored the surrounding landscape through an exciting range of materials and techniques. Palgrove is the property of Peter and Valerie Bondfield at Dalveen 40 km south of Warwick. Accommodation was in the shearer's quarters and tents. The venue allowed participants the joy of exploring one of the loveliest landscapes in rural Queensland. The emphasis was on experiencing the different layers that make Palgrove the landscape it is, through the land and its contours, the animals, the people who live there, the history etc. We worked on many ways to tell the story, and how to decide which story to tell. The Warwick Art Gallery invited artists following this workshop to participate in an exhibition on Palgrove. For further information on Art in the Warwick District, please contact:
