Layering the Landscape WorkshopLayering the Landscape is an experimental workshop that could suit people interested in a broad range of the visual arts. We explore the local landscape and the community, through en situ photography, drawing, painting, rubbings and gathering of historical information and imagery, mapping and found objects. With this body of information we make quick spontaneous explorations using collage, drawing and mixed media to reduce, embed and layer the subject matter together to create images that deal with more than just a “what you see is what you get” image. The experimental work will be bound into a simple reference book. What we are aiming to achieve is working out new ways to fast forward our image making through bold experimentation. Again Edwards Dunlop Paper sponsored the workshop through a gift of papers for the participants. The workshop concentrated on the imagery of Buderim past and present, and its surrounding panoramic views which was helpful to the group as they are currently planning an exhibition to be held at the Sunshine Coast University in twelve months time to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Buderim Craft Cottage. Layering the Landscape - TAFTA, St Peters 2004Layering the Landscape workshop was offered at the TAFTA forum at St Peters Lutheran College in the first week of July 2004. Layering the Landscape - Noosa 2003Layering the Landscape workshop was held at Noosa Regional Art Gallery in 2003. Helen took participants in this workshop exploring the landscape in Noosa, then worked through photography, drawings, rubbings, mapping, commercial advertising on Noosa to each produce an artist's book. This workshop was sponsored by Edwards Dunlop Paper.
Layering the Landscape - Warwick 2002Layering the Landscape workshop was an initiative of the Warwick Art Gallery. It was a drawing, painting, collage and mixed media workshop held in April 2002 at Palgrove Station, near Warwick, in South East Queensland. The workshop was sponsored by the Shire of Warwick, RADF and Edwards Dunlop Paper. Participants were able to absorb the atmosphere, investigate the terrain, observe the particular, and document a wider view of one of Queensland's loveliest rural landscapes.
